On May 6th, 2008, OSA and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation signed a joint-license agreement recognizing OSA as the official parks conservancy for North Brooklyn. The agreement was penned by Steve Hindy, OSA Chair and owner of the Brooklyn Brewery, and Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe. Under the agreement, OSA and Parks agreed to co-hire an Executive Director/Parks Administrator for all parks and green spaces located in Brooklyn Community Board 1. The agreement also lays out the role that OSA will have in capital planning and programming decisions for all of Community Board 1’s parks. The agreement is the culmination of year-long negotiation between lawyers from OSA and the City. The agreement marks the first time that a parks conservancy group has committed itself to improving parks throughout an entire community district to ensure that resources made available to underserved neighborhoods and areas.
